Reed is an award winning documentary filmmaker, who has produced, directed, photographed and edited various documentaries, TV programs and branding films worldwide.

Reed is a two time finalist for National Geographic’s Wild To Inspire Short Film Competition and in 2019 he won with his film The Flip, which premiered at Sun Valley Film Festival and was Official Selection at Banff Mountain Film Festival & World Tour, Kendal Mountain Film Festival, Boulder International Film Festival, Telluride Mountainfilm Festival, San Jose International Film Festival, BendFilm Festival and more. The Flip is an adrenaline filled exploration of what lies beyond the boundaries of fear.

Reed received the National Geographic Filmmakers Grant to produce and direct Pacha Kuti: The Golden Path. Pacha Kuti went on to win various awards in the film festival circuit including First Prize for Best Short Film at Barrie Film Festival (Canada), Best Documentary Film at Arouca Film Festival (Portugal), Best Documentary at Ariano International Film Festival (Italy), Best Documentary at Agrigento Film Festival (Italy), Best Documentary at Short of the Year (Spain), and was nominated for Short Documentary Best Conservation Story at OUTDOCS (China), as well as being nominated Best Documentary at Festival Internacional de Cine de Calzada de Calatrava (Spain). Pacha Kuti is an atmospheric exploration of what biodiversity conservation means to a machiguenga community living in one of the most biodiverse regions in the world – Manu National Park in the Peruvian Amazon.

Reed just recently completed his new short film “Cenote”, which follows Fito Trujillo, a Mexican farmer who discovers his passion for climbing in the most unlikely of places – the Yucatan underworld – and the trajectory of his life is changed forever. This film was made with award winning adventure film production house Sender Films for the Reel Rock film tour – the world’s best climbing films – and for RedBull TV.  Cenote was official selection Banff Mountain Film Festival, and was selected to be included in the Banff World Tour. It was official selection at Telluride Mountain Film Festival 2022.

Beginning in 2006, Reed resided in Morocco for a year and a half where he developed his first feature documentary and in 2009 he won the Latino Public Broadcasting Open Call Award to make this film, The Third Root, which had its world premiere at the Guadalajara International Film Festival. The Third Root follows Mexican guitarist across 3 continents to uncover the African influence in Mexican traditional music.

He went on to direct an episode for the TV docuseries “Asi Es Mi Vida” – the episode explores the world of the third gender called ‘Muxe’ in the zapoteco tradition of Oaxaca, Mexico.

He was co-creator, producer and director of Trazando La Aventura [Path To Adventure], an 8-episode outdoor adventure docuseries for TV Azteca and sponsored by Ford Motor Co., and he was a cinematographer on the Emmy Winning Amazon Prime series Pan y Circo starring Diego Luna.

He works as a producer, director and cinematographer on a variety of documentary and news gathering shoots for clients and platforms such as BBC, Disney and Amazon Prime.

Reed was a Division I soccer player for University of Maryland where he began studies in Anthropology before graduating from California College of the Arts in Oakland, CA with a BFA in Film / Video. He is the founder of Bumi Films, a full service multimedia production company.

For the past 12 years he has resided in Mexico. As an avid rock climber and explorer Reed is drawn to stories in adventure sports, music, and nature and cultural conservation. 

Reed is currently directing a true crime docuseries for a major network, which will be released in the second half of 2024.
